To test your prediction, you can measure the percentage of water in the apples by doing an experiment. Choose an apple from each of the varieties you purchased. Next, gather as many small aluminum pans as you have apples. On a piece of masking tape, write a number and the name of the apple variety you plan to place in the pan. Put the tape on the aluminum and weigh the pan. After you weigh the pan, place an apple in it and reweigh. Record the number of each pan as well as its weight with the apple in it.
Use the graduated cylinder or metric measuring cup to measure out 100 ml of tap water that is 50°C (120°F) or hotter. Pour the hot water into the pancake-shaped cylinder.
